An Insignificant Man: A Documentary

First things first, Why is a book blog talking about a documentary that was shown as a feature film all over India. Well, this was an experience, as riveting and as stimulating as any thriller/real story/biography or any Book that I've ever read.
The documentary or film begins with the incumbent Chief Minister of Delhi, then a political Novice, travelling to meet the family and gather some documentary proof, of a person who had been working as a land officer helping farmers claim their stolen land back from the political mafia, and had been killed as they (Some unknown people, who always seem to escape the law in India) ran the jeep over him again and again, crushing him into little pieces. And, there you have it, was it face-value or was it justice for the unheard, the unknown and the right and honest people that this Ramon Magsaysay award winner wanted?.
Well, it was Justice alright, and this is what makes this documentary shines, it tells us something that we already know and hopes that the people, the unheard and the unknown, the 'aam aadmi' (common man) are being made aware of this, and that is how and why the AAP bases their support and causes. Not, at multi-million dollar wedding receptions, not at some gala industrial-openings of the Uber-rich in India.
This documentary brings to the forefront the 'Political Movement' which gripped the state of our National Capital- Delhi, the ugly side of politics, the money and muscle power which takes lives and just doesn't care, and how the debutant Political Party (which in their own words, were forced to form out of the compulsion to actually bring in some change) resisted all of this and came out victorious, with costs of course.
In one scene, we are gripped with the true story of 'How' a young Political activist, a poor woman out of the slums, came out in support, worked relentlessly for the poor and what is right and died in a mysterious accident, days after receiving life threats from goons. Sorry! for trying to imply a conspiracy, but bottom line, the 28- year old AAP candidate for the polls in question died a few weeks before the election. Any guesses, on where and what has the Judiciary in our Country has done, what has the law done for the same woman is as good as mine? The death of 'Santosh' remains unsolved.
We see, our 'Insignificant Man' trying to talk about what happened, when the said woman was battling her life, a person whom he identified as a Younger 'sister', and he is unable to speak. Even, his fiercest critic won't dare to say that those tears, that overwhelmedness and that breaking down, when he tries to speak of and remember her struggle was doctored and was used to gain political points. See, for yourself and then tell me.

Speaking of Doctoring, days before the said election (that is the underlying plot and setting of the documentary), there goes a sting operation by this honest journalist gentleman, which had very conveniently edited out some crucial 14 seconds in a 2 minute clip, which seeked to reveal corruption by a AAP candidate. This fake 'Sting' operation or in 2017 terms 'Fake News' hurted AAP's prospects in Delhi, by a huge extent as admitted by the 'Eduardo Saverin', to our ruthless 'Insignificant Man'- Mark Zuckerberg - Yogendra Yadav. (Link). The fourth pillar of Democracy, 'the press' giving into money and muscle power, hardly surprising. That 'Honest' journalists doctored sting operation may have fulfilled its purpose, but the joy of the people paying him was short-lived as our hero formed the government and later re-formed the government with a majority, which it failed to get the first time around.
Speaking, of journalism, not always as this documentary is in itself a work of and by journalists.
Speaking, of the soft-spoken, political analyst who turned politician, the person who always has a 'fulaam axomiya gamosa' as opposed to our Insignificant Man's 'Muffler' is a bit difficult and sad as, this founding father of AAP is no longer a part of it, today. Yes! this soft-spoken sidekick is much a hero as our 'Insignificant Man' is, in the reel of this documentary and in real life as well.

** I don't have any idea why, Yogendra Yadav chooses to dot around in a garment from my state and community - the 'gamosa' if you have the slightest clue, please comment down below.
I just hope, that he still can pay a visit to the War Room. Image Source: Youtube |
As you would have guessed by now, this blog post isn't a Movie Review, or a Documentary Review, it is a amalgamation of all that I've felt while following this brand of honest politics, politics of the 'aam aadmi' that our 'Insignificant Man' and his party seeks to and indeed does espouse and follow in practice, as I would believe. It is the reiteration of those beliefs that this Documentary, has espoused in me, is why I am writing this and urging you to watch this film. Also, just FYI, the documentary was shot, on the scene as part of the movement, not as part of a script or under-direction.
Also. I hope and ask you to share this blog post, so that I could urge and reach out to more and more people through this medium of Internet-Writing. xD.

Well, here's the documentary itself:

P.S: Please, feel free to comment, about what you felt about the Documentary in Question and also about the past 900 words that you have read, just now. Any criticism, or contradictory view, or just plain opinion is welcome, and would be held in high regards.
Adios!
